CELEBRATE 50TH ANNIVERSARY

Mr. and Mrs. Hartwig Meyer Wedded Half Century June 3rd

Mr. and Mrs. Hartwig Meyer of Paullina, observed their fiftieth wedding anniversary Sunday, with all their children present together with other relatives and friends. They were married in Germantown, June 3rd, 1883, by the Rev. Zuerrer, deceased, then pastor of the St. John's Lutheran church. For thirty years there were actively engaged in farming in that community coming to Paullina to live in 1913, at which time they retired. They are numbered among the pioneers of Caledonia township and highly respected citizens of this community. Both are enjoying excellent health, Mr. Meyer being 76 years of age and his wife 69 years.

Six children were born to them, one a daughter having passed away in infancy, [Freida born in July 1894. Buried in Chicago, Ill.] Those living are Otto and Adolph, Anna (Mrs. R.B. Knuth), Ida (Mrs. Fred Boesche) all of whom reside in the Germantown vicinity, and Ella [later Mrs. Mike Gephart] who is a resident of Sioux City. Mr. and Mrs. Meyer were both born in Germany, coming to this country with their parents in the early days. They are devoted members of the Zion Lutheran church of Paullina and are devout Christian people. During the afternoon services Rev. J. Hartmeister gave an inspiring talk, addressing Mr. and Mrs. Meyer and their guests. His well chosen words gave comfort to the hearts of the happy couple who have rounded out a half century of joyous wedded life. They were the recipients of many beautiful gifts among them being a beautiful Westinghouse radio which will give them much enjoyment. At 5:00 o'clock a delicious wedding dinner was served. It was a happy occasion and this newspaper joins the family and relatives in extending congratulations and best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Hartwig Meyer, and may they live many more years in happiness and contentment.

Hartwig was born December 17, 1859 In Hanover, Germany, and died March 18,1935 He was at Knuth's Market in Paullina and suffered a heart attack. His parents were Dorothea (Belatek) and Johann Meyer. He emigrated in 1873.

Sophia was the daughter of Joachim and Dorothea (nee Burmeister) Strampe and was born February 16, 1864 in Hanover, Germany. She emigrated in 1882. She lived with her daughter Ella in Sioux City for a number of years before she passed away in 1954.

They were married June 3, 1883 at Germantown.

They are buried in St. John cemetery in Germantown.
