Audrey Brown 1895-1997

Funeral services for Audrey Brown, 102, West Liberty, were held June 11, 1997 at the West Liberty United Methodist church, with the Rev. Frank Schultz officiating. The organist and pianist were Beverly Brown and Sue Culver. Pallbearers were Jack and Marvin Blair, Carl Foster, Lyle McCullough, Loren and Keith Brown, and Ralph Kirchner. Burial was in the Oak Ridge cemetery, West Liberty.

Mrs. Brown died June 7 at Methwick Manor Care Center in Cedar Rapids, where she had resided since 1969.

The daughter of Solomon D. and Hattie Files Foster, she was born Feb. 15, 1895 in Estherville. She married Louis N. Brown on Dec. 27, 1916 in Ottumwa.

The couple farmed near West Liberty, retiring in 1950.

Mrs. Brown was a life member of the West Liberty United Methodist church and she had also served as the superintendent of the Sunday school children's department for several years. She had also served as a volunteer at the Veterans Administration hospital in Iowa City for over 1,000 hours.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Janet Eden, Arlington, Texas; 2 sons, Darrell Brown, Tipton; and Roger Brown, Newport Beach, Calif.; 8 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1964, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Memorials may be made to the West Liberty United Methodist church.
