FORT VALLEY, GA – Mary Ellen Lowe, 61, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, after a sudden illness. She was surrounded by her family. There will be no services held in Georgia, and a Celebration of Life will be held in Muscatine, Iowa. Plans for the service will be announced as soon as they are arranged. Mary’s remains will be scattered in some of her favorite places, as well as being cherished in the homes of her immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions are made at a later date. These funds will be used to support youth bowling in Muscatine, Iowa, a sport of which she was greatly fond.

Mary Ellen was born in Worthington, Minnesota, to the late James and Mary Wemple. She grew up in Worthington, one of four children. After high school graduation, Mary Ellen attended a vocational technical school where she completed specialized training to become an Official Court Reporter. Mary Ellen began her career in Iowa and worked in this profession for over thirty-five years. Her favorite part of her job was participating in the adoption process as happy families grew by one or several children.

She was united in marriage to David Lowe on August 8, 1998. Mary had several lifelong friends, and was “like a mom” to countless friends of her two children and fed anyone who visited her home; she was well-known for her snack basket. Spending quality time with her grandchildren and watching them perform and compete in various activities brought her great joy. She had a deep love for animals; her pets throughout the years brought her great joy and comfort. In April of 2021, following her retirement, she and her husband moved to Fort Valley, Georgia, to live at Beaux Eden Plantation with her eldest brother and sister. Living next door to her sister and spending quality time with her family was something she thoroughly enjoyed. Mary had an infectious laugh and loved to meet everyone who visited BEP; she created some priceless memories in her time there.

Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents.

Left to cherish the memories they made with Mary are her loving and devoted husband of nearly twenty-four years, David Lowe of Fort Valley, Georgia; her children, Nicholas Doy (Stephanie) and Caitlin Taylor (Jacob), both of Muscatine, Iowa; four grandchildren, Taygen Doy, Ryker Doy, Kamryn Taylor, and Ryan Taylor; her siblings, Steven Wemple (Patricia), Barb Hall (John), and Marc Wemple (Michele); and several nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to her as
“Mary Smellin.”

Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com . Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
