Last rites for Walter Barkhurst, 57, were held at West Liberty Feb. 17 with burial in the West Branch cemetery.

Mr. Barkhurst died at University hospitals, Iowa City, Feb. 15, following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Barkhurst was born May 24, 1913, near Iowa City, the son of Walter and Nellie Barkhurst. He married Elizabeth Moffit in 1934 in Cambridge, Ill. The couple farmed in the Rochester-Atalissa area until 2 years ago when they moved to West Liberty.

Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Robert, Omaha and Richard, St. Louis.
