MUSCATINE-Donald E. Honts, 81, passed away on Thursday, July 15 at his home in Fruitland-Muscatine, IA.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, July 22 at 10:00 a.m. at the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Service of Muscatine. Burial will follow the services at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21 at the funeral home. Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.

Donald Eugene Honts was born on August 12, 1939 in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Elmer Honts and Gladys (Thomas) Honts. As a young man, he worked at H. J. Heinz Company, and later as a distiller at Grain Processing Corporation until his retirement. Following retirement, he was actively involved in tending his vegetable garden, learning to fly, helping out in his church, the Church of the Nazarene in Wapello, and spending time with children and grandchildren.

On September 15, 1958, Donald Honts was united in marriage to Diane Lea Staats at the Congregational Church of Christ in Iowa City. He was the loving father of one daughter, Brenda, and three sons, Jerry, Jeffery, and Brian.

Donald will be deeply missed by his surviving children, Jerry E. Honts and his wife, Virginia Dress, of Clive, Iowa, Brenda Davis and husband Terry of Centerville, Iowa, and Brian Honts and wife Shari Stark of Brevard, North Carolina. He is also survived by his four grandchildren Cory, Amber, Joshua, and Adam; and three great-grandchildren, Cory Jr., Eli, and Isaiah. He is also survived by one brother, Frank Honts of Muscatine.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Gladys; his beloved wife, Diane; his son Jeffery; his sisters Carolyn, Donna Mae, and Phyllis; and his brothers, Thomas, Linn, Richard and Bob.
