DEAN FUNERAL IS WEDNESDAY
Funeral services for Dr. H.M. Dean, 93, former local resident who died at Davenport Monday, will be conducted at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Fairbanks Home for Funerals here by the Rev. William Hainsworth, pastor of the First Congregational church.
Members of Iowa Lodge No. 2 will also conducted services and the Masonic male quartet will sing, accompanied by Miss Cora Baker at the organ. Burial will be at Greenwood cemetery, DeMolay Commandery, No. 1, will provide an escort in uniform.
Dr. Henry Munson Dean was born at Falls Village, Conn., Nov. 8, 1836. He was the son of Henry and Alma Munson Dean, both of Massachusetts. He married Miss Emma Johnson at Philadelphia, Pa., June 28, 1866. She died in 1918.
Dr. Dean came to Muscatine in 1867 and practiced here until 1918 when he went to Iowa City. For the past two months he had been at Mercy hospital in Davenport.
Dr. Dean was the oldest Mason in point of membership and years of the local lodge. He became a Mason at Lakeville, Conn., in Montgomery Lodge, No. 13, in 1862. He came to Muscatine and entered Iowa Lodge No. 2 in 1867.
He had served as master of Iowa Lodge, in 1883, was high priest of Washington Chapter, No. 4, R.A.M., 1889, was eminent commander in DeMolay Commandery, No. 1, K.T., in 1892, was past Patron of Electa chapter, No. 32, serving 10 years, was a member of Zerapath Consistory, No. 4, at Davenport.
Dr. Dean was a life deacon of the First Congregational church here. He was an officer in medical societies, was president of the board of United States Examiners of Surgeons and was also surgeon for the C.R.I. and P. railway for a time. He had been a member of the Muscatine county sanitary commission and was honorarily mentioned in the surgical and medical history of the Civil war in which he served for three and one-half years.
Surviving are the following children: Dr. Lee Wallace Dean of St. Louis, Mo; Dr. Roy Herbert Dean, Washington, Ia.; one grandson, Harry J. Dean, Jr., Iowa City. One son, Dr. Harry Dean died in April, 1911.
Brothers and sisters surviving are Dwight Dean, Falls Village, Conn., Lee Dean, Falls Village, Conn., Miss Francis Dean, Fresno Calif.
Relatives from a distance who will attend funeral services are Dr. and Mrs. L.W. Dean of St. Louis and Dr. and Mrs. R.H. Dean Washington, Ia.
