Augustus A. Ames, Former Resident, Buried at Nichols

Nichols – funeral services for Augustus A. Ames were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kile, cousins, at 2 p.m. Sunday, conducted by the Rev. C. J. Clas, pastor of the Christian church. Burial was in the Watkins cemetery, south of Nichols. Pallbearers were B. F. Nichols, C. L. Pike, H. M. Fox, W. R. Schmitt, Walter Cullins, and B. L. Metcalf. Those in charge of the flowers were Mesdames Hazel Swickard, Golda Pike, Elsie Poole, Anna Rosenfield, Ora Nichols, Emma Kirchner, and Dora Nichols.
Augustus A. Ames was born March 13, 1870, two and one-half miles south of Nichols, and died at his home at Beach Haven Court, Corpus Christi, Tex., April 6. He was married to Ernie I. Brashear, Oct. 20, 1897, at Marceline, Mo. He was a member of the Presbyterian church at Corpus Christi, also of Clay Poole lodge, No. 13, A. F. and A. M., Royal Arch Masons of Iowa, Delta Commandery No. 51, and knights Templar, fort Madison, Ia., Kaaba temple of the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic shrine, Davenport, and the gulf Coast Shrine club, Corpus Christi, Tex. For 32 years he was employed by the A. T. and S. F. Railroad company as a passenger conductor, having retired from account of ill health. Those preceding him in death are his father, mother, four brothers and one sister.
He is survived by two brothers, Dr. Albert B. Ames, Dr. Charles M. Ames, both of Chicago, and one sister, Stella C. Ames, of Los Angeles. Also five nephews, one niece and several cousins.
Relatives from a distance who were called here for the funeral were, Dr. Albert B. Ames, Dr. Charles M. Ames and wife, all of Chicago; the widow, Mrs. A. A. Ames, of Corpus Christi, Tex.; Mrs. J. J. Ross, of Houston, Tex.; Mr. and Mrs. Harry N. Ames, of Fort Madison, Ia.; Russell W. Ames, and Oliver A. Ames, both of Des Moines; and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stevens, of Peoria, Ill.
