Red Oak, IowaAlexander Abbott, the carriage maker, died early Wednesday morning, May 4, 1898 at his home, 107 Corning Street, Red Oak, Iowa.
Mr. Abbott, 67 years old, was afflicted with a hernia and while at his bench Monday injured himself in the abdomen. The injury produced inflammation of the bowels, which caused his death.
His son Frank arrived yesterday from Chicago and Ed is expected today from Warsaw, Wis., where he had been visiting. Besides these two sons, he leaves an invalid daughter, Florence, and wife, the latter being blind.
Alexander Abbott was born April 18, 1831, in Detroit Michigan. He was married in 1855 and has lived in Red Oak since 1881. Mr. Abbott is survived by his wife, a daughter, Florence, a son, Frank G. of Chicago, Illinois; and a son, Edgar D. of Warsaw, Wisconsin.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 6, 1898 at 3:00 pm. at the home of the deceased. The services will be conducted by Rev. Brickert, paster of the Christian Church.
