Ralph M Spencer

Ralph M Spencer, 86 , lifetime resident of Red Oak, died Sunday at Mom and Dad's care center in Sioux Falls, S.D. after an illness of 10 months.

Services are today at 2 pm at United Presbyterian Church with Dr. Robert Hill officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery and arrangements are by Sellergren-Lindell Funeral Home.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Spencer, he was born here April 17, 1897 and was a World War I veteran of the U.S. Navy. He owned and operated Gochenour & Son Coal Co. prior to retirement, was a member of United Presbyterian Church and Lorraine Post No. 67 of the American Legion. He was a former member of the Red Oak Rotary Club.

He was recognized was as an authority on Red Oak history. He was married in 1920 to Marjorie Haight , who died in 1982.

Surviving are two sons, Morris of Waukesha, Wis., and George of Sioux Falls, S. D., eight grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
