Death of Mrs. J.A. Shankland.

Mrs. J.A. Shankland, wife of Rev. Mr. Shankland, died at her home, 405 Corning St, Wednesday morning, Feb. 16, at 7:30 o’clock. Death came suddenly, and was from heart disease. Mrs. Shankland had been ill for a few days, but did not deem the illness serious and on the morning of her death expressed herself as feeling so much better that she would leave her bed and join the family. She so expressed herself to her daughter, Miss Madge, and when the latter returned to her mother’s bedroom after an absence of barely five minutes found her mother dying. Telegrams were immediately sent her children living in Nebraska and Colorado. The funeral services will be held at the home this (Friday) afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, and will be conducted by Rev. S. E. DuBois, of the United Presbyterian church. Mrs. Shankland’s maiden name was Mary E. Perry; she was born near Schenectady, N.Y., March 5, 1829; was married in Schenectady Sept. 7, 1852. With her husband and children she came to this county in 1872, living on a farm in Jackson township until five years ago, when they moved to Red Oak. Seven children were born to Rev. and Mrs. Shankland: W.P. Shankland, residing in Lincoln, Neb; Abigail, wife of R.A. White, of Rockwell City, who died at her home there about two years ago; Mrs. J.F. Baird, of Hendley, Neb; Joseph Shankland, of Red Oak; Mrs. May Steninger, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Miss Madge Shankland, of Red Oak. All but Mrs. Steninger are now here, and she will be here in time to be present at the funeral.
Mrs. Shankland had for many years been active in church work. Upon cming to this city she united with the United Presbyterian church of Red Oak. She was greatly beloved by all who knew her and the intelligence of her death brings sadness to a large circle of friends.
