LARRY LEE SPENCER

Larry Lee Spencer, age 70, of Albia, passed away Monday, January 28, 2013, at Monroe County Hospital in Albia.

Larry was born February 26, 1942, to William and Merna (Jones) Spencer on the family farm in Albia. He married Sheryl McCammant on October 24, 1992 in Maywood Church in Waterloo, IA.

Larry graduated from Moravia High School. He began work at Chamberlains while also helping farmers in the area. He later started at John Deere in Waterloo and retired after 34 years in 1994. After retirement he helped read meters for REC, and since 1999, he has caught some of the best bait, made jigs, and did a lot of work that went unnoticed for Treasure Chest Bait and Tackle Shop in Albia, which he and Sheryl owned and operated.

Larry enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, and fishing. He liked talking to people and spending time with his family and friends. He really enjoyed being a grandpa and spending time with his grandkids.

Larry is survived by his wife, Sheryl of Albia; mother, Merna Spencer of Albia; eight children, Larry Jr. (Lisa) Spencer of New Braunfels, TX, Sarah Tackett of San Angelo, TX, Sheri (David) Youngblood of San Angelo, TX, Christine (Toby) Trudel of Manchester, NH, Bill Spencer of Albia, Tracy (Jenny) McCammant of Sumus, WA, Tammy Norris of Albia, and Ted (Cyndi) McCammant of Sherwood, WA. He was also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins; a brother, LeRoy (Marlene) Spencer of Allerton, IA; and a sister, Betty Nichols of Des Moines.

Larry was preceded in death by his father; a son, Christopher Spencer in infancy; and two grandsons, Justin Tackett and Calvin Spencer.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 1, 2013, at Tharp Funeral Home in ALbia. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in rural Albia.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. Thursday, January 31, 2013, at the funeral home, with Larry's family present from 5-8 p.m. Thursday evening.

Memorials may be made to Larry's family.
