Patrick H. O’Connor dies; Final Rites This Morning

Patrick H. O’Connor, 84, pioneer Melrose resident, died at his home Friday evening.

He operated the O’Connor Grocery for 35 years. His parents established residence in the Melrose community nearly a century ago and he was the last surviving child.

Final rites were at St. Patrick Catholic church in Melrose this morning, The Rev. R J McGrath officiated at the requiem mass. Burial was in Mt. Calvary cemetery.

Survivors are his wife, the former Catherine Coughlin, eight daughters, Mrs. Francis McDonald of Creston, Mrs. Robert Craig of Dayton, Mrs. Garland Pyle of Russell, Miss Martina O’Connor of Rock Island, Ill., and Mrs. L. A. Knowles, Mrs. L. J. Logan, Mrs. J. W. Ciska and Miss Winnie O’Connor, all of Melrose and three sons, James O’Connor of Long Beach, Cal., Walter O’Connor of Fort Des Moines and Lawrence J. O’Connor of Melrose.

Also surviving are 28 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Mr. O’Connor was preceded in death by two daughters.
