Matt Barron

Matthew Patrick Barron, son or James and Catherine Barron, was born in Cedar township, Monroe County, Iowa. Nov. 3, 1877, and died at his home at Weller, Monroe County. Iowa, Thursday night, Dec. 6, 1923 at 10 o'clock, having spent his life in this county. He was aged 46 years. 1 month and 3 days.

Death was due to tumor on the brain, Mr. Barron having spent several weeks in an Iowa City and an Oskaloosa hospital, but was brought home a few weeks ago.

In October, 1904 he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Quinn, and to this happy union nine children were born, one dying in infancy. They are, James, Monica. Mary, Thomas, Vincent, Kathleen, Marjorie and Paul, who are at home with their mother.

He leaves besides a wife and children, his mother, three brothers, Rev Father Ed W. Barron, Brooklyn, Ia. and Phillip and James of Cedar township; one sister, Mrs. Wm. Morrissey, Cedar township; other relatives and a host of friends in the county who mourn his passing.

Solemn Requiem High Mass was said at St. Mary's Church, Weller, Monday morning, Dec. 10. 1923 at 10 o'clock, Father E. W. Barron, celebrant; Father P. J. Murphy of Georgetown, deacon; Father P J. Ryan, Lovilia, sub deacon; Father Maurice Hannan, Grinnell, master of ceremonies, Father J. M. Cash of Welter delivered the sermon.

Burial was made in St. Mary's cemetery.

Melrose Bell
December 13, 1923

Matt Barron, a well known and respected citizen of Weller died at his home Thursday after a long illness.

He is survived by his wife and eight children.

The funeral was held Monday morning at St. Mary’s church, Rev. Father Barron, brother of deceased, celebrated the solemn high mass, assisted by Rev. Father Murphy of Georgetown, Rev. Father Hannon of St. Ambrose College, Davenport, Rev. Father Cash, pastor, preached an eloquent funeral sermon in which he reviewed useful life of the deceased and gave great comfort to the bereaved ones.

The funeral was attended by a large number of K. Of C. Of Melrose Council of which he was a member.

Interment was made in St. Mary’s cemetery. Sympathy is extended to the bereaved ones in their great sorrow.
