Helen C. Scieszinski, age 99, of Waukee, formerly of Melrose, passed away October 15, 2017 at the Village of Legacy Pointe in Waukee, Iowa.

Helen was born April 17, 1918 to William S. and Teresa (Fitzgerald) Scieszinski on the family farm near Melrose. She graduated from the Albia High School with the Class of 1936, and attended Albia Junior College for a year.

Helen moved to Des Moines in 1942 where she worked at Iowa Packing Co. for 25 years until they closed in 1967. Helen then worked for Woodford Manufacturing in Des Moines for 14 years before taking a position for the city of Des Moines until she retired in 1983.

Helen was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and St. Patrick’s Altar and Rosary Society in Melrose. She enjoyed ballroom dancing, watching her nieces and nephew’s Albia sporting events and watching Iowa State Football and Basketball.

She is survived by many nieces, nephews and a sister-in-law, Margaret Scieszinski.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents William and Teresa; five sisters, Teresa Scieszinski, Mary Scieszinski, Berenice McCarty, Grace L. Roush and Regina Roach; four brothers, Frank, Michael, William, and Maurice Scieszinski; two nephews, Don McCarty and Terry Scieszinski and one niece, Marleen Rogers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 21, 2017, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Melrose, with Father Mark Yates C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will follow services at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Melrose.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 20, 2017 at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Helen’s family present from 4-8 p.m. A rosary will be held at 4:00 p.m. followed by a Christian Wake Service.

A memorial has been established to the Mt. Calvary Improvement Fund or HCI Hospice of Albia.
