MEETS DEATH IN MINE

Luke Krpan of Hocking Crushed by Fall of Slate

Luke Krpan was instantly killed in mine No. 3 at Hocking this morning at 7:30 o'clock. He had gone into his working place which was room No. 4, 11th south entry, on the east side of the mine, and started to put in timbers when a heavy fall of slate struck him on the head breaking his neck. This was followed by a second fall on his limbs and lower part of his body, which buried him and held him fast. Frank O. Gilvery was the only eye witness of the terrible accident and he at once gave the alarm and the body was removed from its death trap. Coroner Hyatt was notified and repaired to the scene, empanelled a jury and a verdict in accordance with the above facts was rendered.

The victim was a Russian, a member of the Catholic church and his funeral will be conducted from St. Mary's Catholic church Friday.

The mine was idle today on account of his death.

NOTE: Burial Oakview Cemetery
