Leslie “Les” Lee Jones, 74, of Whiting, Iowa passed away Friday, March 8, 2024 at his residence, surrounded by family.

A memorial service will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 16, 2024 at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, Iowa led by Jack Gibler. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Les’ obituary. Burial will follow in the Onawa Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the United States Navy and the Emery Johnson American Legion Post #481 of Whiting, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Leslie Lee was born May 16, 1949 in Onawa, Iowa, the son of Marion and Marilyn (Myers) Jones. He grew up in Whiting and graduated from Whiting High School with the class of 1968. Les served in the United States Navy from September 4, 1968 and was honorably discharged June 1, 1970.

Les worked for various places as a heavy equipment operator. He was an over the road truck driver and hauled many loads for the farmers. Les enjoyed watching many stock car races at the Park Jefferson Speedway in North Sioux City, South Dakota. He loved going to rodeos and fishing.

Les was a member of the Whiting Christian Church, Whiting, Iowa.

Survivors include seven sisters, Kathy Harvey of Whiting, Iowa, Deanna (John) Seward of Whiting, Iowa, Colleen Lane of Whiting, Iowa, Pam (Kurt Fountain) Jones of Whiting, Iowa, Deb (Randy) Hicks of Sloan, Iowa, Cheri (Brian) Miley of Farwell, Nebraska, and Carolyn (Mike) Sorenson of Onawa, Iowa; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marion Jones; mother, Marilyn Harris; stepfather, Hubert Harris; and brother-in-law, Michael “Coke” Lane.
