SLOAN, Iowa - Lucille Sumner, 99, of Sloan died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Congregational Church of Christ with the Rev. Suzanne Miller officiating. Burial will be in Sloan City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the church. Rush Family Care Service of Onawa is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sumner was born Jan. 4, 1902, in rural Sloan, the daughter of Elmer Everett and Carrie (Bebe) Linscott. She was raised in the Sloan area and graduated from Sloan High School in 1921. She received a teaching certificate from Morningside College in Sioux City. She married Cecil Emmett Sumner on Sept. 1, 1926, in Sioux City. He died July 17, 1973.

She was a member of United Congregational Church of Christ and the lady's aid. She enjoyed gardening, reading, crocheting and quilting.

Survivors include a son, Donald 'Sparky' of Sloan; a brother, Wayne Linscott of Idaho Falls, Idaho; two sisters and their husbands, Irma and Milo Hunter of Sloan, and Ruie and Harold McKain of Kansas City, Kan.

She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby Bray and Marie Meyers; and four brothers, Nathan, Cecil, Calvary and Merrill.

Pallbearers will be Vernon Myers, Allen Hutton, Denny Hobbs, Gary Hunter, Larry Finley and Brian Hobbs.
