John Leon “Butch” Neddermeyer, age 80, of Ute, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, in rural Ute, Iowa.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Ute, Iowa. Reverend Nathan Peitsch will officiate. Military Rites will be conducted at the church by the VFW Post No. 5605 and the Aaby Post No. 442 of the American Legion of Ute, Iowa. A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 11, 2022, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Ute, Iowa.

The Armstrong - Van Houten Funeral Home of Ute, Iowa, is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

John Leon “Butch” Neddermeyer was born to Robert and Edna (Fischer) Neddermeyer on January 18, 1942, on the family farm south of Ute, Iowa. He was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Ute on February 15, 1942 and confirmed there on April 14, 1957. After graduating from Ute High School with the class of 1961, Butch worked at IBP in Denison, Iowa, until he entered the military. He joined the Army in 1964 and served our country in Vietnam.

After his honorable discharge Butch was united in marriage to Joan Ruth Koeppen at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on June 17, 1967. The couple were blessed with two beautiful children, Jaci and Shawn.

Butch and Joan were lifelong residents of Ute where Butch was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the local VFW. He farmed and raised sheep, then worked for Olson Construction building terraces and dams. In 1989 Butch went to work for Reilly Construction until his retirement from there in 2019.

Butch enjoyed playing baseball and slow pitch softball and was catcher for the Ute Slow Pitch team. He loved spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. You could often find him socializing in downtown Ute and Soldier. When he wasn’t socializing, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Joan Neddermeyer of Ute, IA; daughter and son-in-law Jaci (Brad) Elwell and their children Riley Brian Elwell and Gaige John Elwell of Mapleton, IA; son and daughter-in-law Shawn (Kristie) Neddermeyer and their children Kamren Taylor Neddermeyer, Braden John Neddermeyer, and Brooklyn Paige Neddermeyer of Webster City, IA; sister Millie Lansman of Omaha, NE; sister-in-law Carol Neddermeyer of Schleswig, IA; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Edna (Fischer) Neddermeyer; sisters Marlene (Gus) Goslar and Ruth (Gordon) Moeller; brother Ervin Neddermeyer; brother-in-law Roger Lansman; nephew Steven (Denise) Moeller; and niece Vicki Lansman.
