Christopher “Chris” D. Cook, 68, of Carroll, Iowa, formerly of Whiting, Iowa, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2022 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital, Carroll, Iowa.

A visitation will be 1:00 – 3:00 P.M. Sunday, April 10, 2022 at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, Iowa. Family requests those attending to please wear casual clothing, Iowa Hawkeyes or Nebraska Corn Huskers attire. Military Honors will be rendered at 3:00 P.M. and will be provided by the United States Army and Emery Johnson American Legion Post #481 of Whiting, Iowa. A live stream of the Military Honors will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Chris’ obituary. A celebration of his life and luncheon will follow at the Onawa Community Center, Onawa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Christopher Dale was born June 21, 1953 in Rockford, Illinois, the son of Collin LeRoy and Helen Lorraine (Hinkle) Cook. Chris grew up in Sioux City, Iowa and lived in foster care with Mr. and Mrs. George Kelly. He graduated from Westwood High School, Sloan, Iowa in 1972. After graduation, Chris enlisted in the United States Army.

Chris worked in cow hide factories, and worked in construction for several years. He worked for Hansen Feed Lot near Moorhead, Iowa for several years and retired due to health issues. In his younger years, Chris enjoyed fishing.

He loved spending time with his family and friends. Chris enjoyed working on houses doing carpentry work. He loved watching sports on T.V. such as basketball, football, and boxing; and loved watching western shows.

Survivors include his daughter, Rachel (Colby) Seward of Carroll, Iowa, and son, Damien Garber of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; grandchild, Finn Garber of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; brother, Ron (Sue) Cook of Sioux City, Iowa; three sisters, Sharlyn Franco of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, Carol Bremmer of Sioux City, Iowa, and Diane Trizila of Sioux City, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Darlene Peterson of Sioux City, Iowa, Cleo Peterson of South Sioux City, Nebraska, and Karen Peterson of Kansas City, Kansas; many nieces and nephews; cousins; other relatives, and friends; many others that referred to him as “Dad” and “Grandpa”; and numerous extended foster family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Collin and Helen (Hinkle) Cook; foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Kelly; grandchildren, Infant twins, Kyla and Bentley Cook; and four brothers, Marv Peterson, Carl Peterson, Gary Peterson, and Dean Cooke.
