Lyle A. Rose, 89, of Mapleton, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2020 at his residence.

A Funeral Service will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 23, 2020 at the Castana Community Church, Castana, Iowa with Pastor Linda Boggs officiating. (Social distancing measures must be followed-Due to Covid-19 restrictions- Masks are required for the church service.) Burial will follow in the Center Cemetery, Castana, Iowa. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Army and the Grimsley Thayer American Legion Post #502, Castana Iowa. Visitation will be 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 23, 2020 at the Castana Community Church Castana, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Lyle A. Rose was born at rural Mapleton, Iowa the son of Roscoe and Beaulah (Davis) Rose Irwin on December 20, 1930. He attended Castana School and graduated from there in 1950. He was involved in many activities, but especially loved playing basketball and baseball.

On September 23, 1951 he married DiAnn Perrin and to this union four children were born, Debbie, Marsha, David, and Brenda.

Lyle served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict and was stationed in Fort Lee, Virginia. He was honorably discharged February 17, 1954.

He returned to Monona County, Iowa where he spent his life farming and enjoying his family and horses. Everyone who knew him, knew his love for horses. As a young man he competed in horse shows and rode many trail rides. As his children grew, he was excited to watch his children compete in rodeos even providing an arena at home which brought many visitors to watch the practices. After the kids left home, he turned to hitching and driving draft horses.

He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and rarely missed a sporting event that his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were participating in.

Along with farming, Lyle worked many years at the Mapleton Livestock Auction. He also drove the school bus for Maple Valley School. Lyle served as a Center Township Trustee since 1981. During his life time he was a 4-H leader, served on the Castana School Board, a church council member and active in the Grimsley Thayer American Legion Post #502 in Castana, Iowa. He was a member of the U.C.C. Church.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years DiAnn (Perrin) Rose; his children, Debbie (Michael) Jensen of Castana, Iowa, Marsha (Craig) Hartman of Sloan, Iowa, David (Rita) Rose of Mapleton, Iowa and Brenda (Steve) Howland of Mapleton, Iowa; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Jared) Bruening, Laura Jensen, Lydia (Jordan) Fultz, Bradley (Megan) Rose, Heather (David) Johansen, Trent (Charissa) Howland, and Monica Howland; grandchildren, Mariah and Callie Bruening, Elliott Fultz, Harlee, Hudson and Hayden Rose, Maycie, Easton, and Carlie Howland, Morgan, Skylar and Brodie Johansen, Jameson, Jersey and Jaylee King; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Beaulah (Davis) Rose Irwin; grandson, Lucas Jensen; sister, Maxine Rose Johnson; parents-in-law, Ned and Evelyn Perrin; and brother-in-law, Don Johnson.
