Wesley Masters Is Laid to Rest

Wesley J. Masters was tenderly laid to rest on March 4th the funeral services being under the direction of the John Duschl Funeral Home at Mapleton. The sermon was preached by Rev. G. W. Dunn of Ida Grove a former pastor he was assisted by Rev. Van Metre who is pastor at the present time. The Masons had charge of the service at the grave and interment was made in the Center Cemetery.

Mr. Masters was a man of sterling worth not alone in the community in which he dwelled, but throughout the county. He was industrious, honest and also ready at all times to give of his wealth an daid to any community or the county.

Mr. Masters was a good man to council his advice was sound and his dealings were upright, Monona County is better that Wesley Masters lived here. He did his share in helping build it up and he will be remembered long for the many fine things he has helped to accomplish.

The Democrat editor who has known Mr. Masters for a long number of years grieves with his loved ones in his demise.

Wesley J. Masters the only son of John and Mary Masters was born in Draycott, Somersetville, England August 5th, 1872. He died March 2, 1931 at the age of 58 years 6 months 27 days,

When he was 8 years old his parents left England with the children, September 9, 1880. After visiting friends and relatives in New York State: Evanston, Illinois and Salina, Kansas the family moved onto a farm 6 miles southwest of Mapleton. Here Wesley grew to manhood and has resided on the same farm ever since.

He was united in marriage to Isara De Wolf, February 15, 1894. To this union five children were born, all of whom, together with his wife and two grandchildren survive him. The children are Mrs. Mary Dubbert of Lawrence, Iowa, Miss Ervilla of Des Moines, John of Mapleton, Frederick of Whiting and Mrs. Marjorie Lett of Haxton, Colorado, of his four sisters one survives him, Mrs. Flossie Perrin of Mapleton.

His long residence in Monona County, his activity in many fields of endeavor and his ability to make new acquaintances and make these acquaintances permanent friends, make him well known and widely respected, his leadership in pioneer efforts towards securing the telephone, the mail route, better roads and schools and his deep and Vital interest in all movements for community betterment made him a community builder of the best type. His personal integrity, his devotion to the sacred interest of his home and family, together with his community service made him a citizen whose loss will be deeply felt.

He was a member of the Methodist Church of Mapleton and was affiliated with the Masonic and Woodman Lodges of Mapleton and the Odd Fellows and Rebekah Lodge of Castana.
