Oscar Hansen Buried Today

Well Known and Highly Respected Farmer of Sioux Township Died March 9

Passed Away At Sioux City Hospital Following an Operation for Acute Appendictis – His Passing is Mourned By His Hundreds of Friends.

The funeral of Oscar Hansen well known, and highly respected farmer of Sioux Township is being held from the Congregational Church this City on this Thursday afternoon. The funeral is in charge of the Barnard Funeral Home and Rev. James Smith is the officiating Minister. The remains will be laid to rest in the Onawa Cemetery.

Mr. Hansen passed away in the Methodist Hospital at Sioux City on March 9th after a short illness which was preceded by an acute attack of appendicitis for which he was operated on March 5th.

Mr. Hansen has lived on the old home farm his entire life, was one of those men whose years in the community in which he dwelled made for him new friends daily, he was loved by all who knew him for his kindly acts, he was a hard worker and always was ready to do his share in the up building of the community. He was held places of trust in his township and was counted among her very best citizen. It is with deep regret that the Democrat sides his mother, Kamille Hansen, because the community can ill afford to lose citizens of this type.

Oscar Ludwig Hansen was born near Moorhead, Iowa July 4th, 1885 and died at the Methodist Hospital in Sioux City on March 9, 1931 at the age of 45 years 8 months 5 days.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Danish Lutheran Church of which he has been a faithful and useful member since.

Mr. Hansen has been a faithful helper in the improvements of his community and has spent his entire life at farming.

He was united in marriage to Agnes L. Anderson of Onawa, Iowa December 1913. To this union were born seven children – three having died in infancy.

Mr. Hansen is survived by his wife and one daughter Hildur, age 16, three sons, Donald 14, Lester 13, and Herman 10, besides Mrs. Kamille Hansen and three sisters, Mrs. Rasmus R. Ravnsborg, Turin, Iowa, Mrs. Arthur J. Jepson of Moorhead and Mrs. Sigurd Hansen of Onawa, also six brothers, Axel T. Hansen of Omaha, Nebraska, Viggo E. Hansen of Moorhead, Fred C. Hansen of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Roy B. Hansen of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Francis M. Of Wichita Falls, Texas and Sophus W. of East St. Louis, Illinois besides a host of friends and relatives.

His father and three brothers preceded him in death.

Members of the Danish Brotherhood Lodge of which Mr. Hansen was a member and at the time of his death president of the Chapter, will conduct a brief ceremony at the grave.

The pallbearers were members of the lodge and close friends of Mr. Hansen.

Mrs. Mildred Feller of Sioux City sang two beautiful solos at the funeral services. Mrs. Feller was a class-mate in the Onawa Schools of Fred and Roy Hansen.
