Larry Dale Kreger,Sr. 66, of Onawa, Iowa, passed away Friday, August 7, 2020 at Burgess Health Center, Onawa, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, August 14, 2020 at the Rush Family Chapel, Onawa, Iowa with Pastor Harvey Hanson and Jack Gibler officiating. (Social distancing measures will be followed- Family requests attendees to bring and wear masks.) Burial will follow in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa. Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Thursday, August 13, 2020 at the Rush Family Chapel Onawa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Larry Dale Kreger, Sr. was born October 4, 1953, in Onawa, Iowa, the son of Dale E. and Margret A. (Tyson) Kreger. He grew up in Onawa and graduated from West Monona High School in 1971.

Larry was united in marriage on February 15, 1980, to Suzanna White at the First Christian Church in Onawa. Four children were born to this union: Larry Jr., Jeremy, Kirk and Katie. After Suzanna's passing in 2016, he became very special friends with Becky Marcum in 2018.

Larry started working at the DX Station in Onawa during high school. After graduating, he attended CEO in Omaha, Nebraska, where he attained an Associate’s Degree in Accounting. After school, he was employed at West Monona as a janitor before starting his long-time career with MidAmerican Energy, whereupon he retired after 30 + years of service. In addition to working full-time, Larry also spent his entire life farming on his parent’s family farm.

Larry enjoyed working on the farm whether it was in the field or tending to the animals. While growing up, he was a member of 4-H and continued on once his children were of an age to join. For his service, he earned the Lifetime 4-H Award in 2017. Additionally, he spent many years participating in multiple programs and committees including serving as a member of the West Monona School Board, the Monona County Cattleman's Association and the First Christian Church. He loved being outdoors, but deer-hunting season was undoubtedly his favorite. He always enjoyed razzing his friends and never met a stranger he didn’t like as he found friends wherever he traveled. He also enjoyed spending time with family, especially his granddaughters.

Survivors include: three sons Larry Jr. (Kelli) Kreger of Phoenix, AZ, Jeremy (Brooke) Kreger of Onawa, IA and Kirk Kreger of Onawa, IA; one daughter Katie (Patrick) Kelley of Blencoe, IA; two grandchildren Lauren Jones and Henley Kreger; two sisters Sharon Adkins of Onawa, IA and Nancy (Leroy) Kepner of Castana, IA; one brother Chris (Theo) Kreger of Smithland, IA; two sisters-in-law Carol Washburn and Jeanette (Don) Birkes; two brothers-in-law Steve White and Doug (Pam) White; aunts and uncles Mary (Roy) Kress, Jeanne Polly and Jim (Nancy) Tyson; and numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Suzanna; parents Dale and Margaret (Tyson) Kreger; and his parents -in-law John and Clara (Knudsen) White.
