Obituary of Amanda Custer

Funeral services for Amanda D. Custer were held Thursday, August 5th at the church in Ticonic at 2 P M. with Henry Muller officiating. Mrs. Custer passed away July 29th at Modesto, California after a brief illness.

She was born June 25th, 1859 and at the time of her passing was 89 years 1 month and 4 days of age. She had been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Cynthia Foster of Modesto, California. She was the daughter of Samuel Sewell and Sarah McKeever who were early settlers of Iowa. Mrs. Custer spent her entire life in Iowa and the Ticonic community until 1935 when she moves to California to be with her children.

She was the wife of Henry W. Custer who preceded her in death. To this union 14 children were born of which five are still living—Bert Horner, Riverbank, California; Mrs. Cynthia Foster, Modesto, Calif.; Mrs. Mina Foltz, Portland, Oregon; Raymond Custer, Modesto, Calif.; Mrs. Gladys Atkinson of Modesto, Calif.; also surviving are 45 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren as well as other relatives and many friends.

A quintet composed of Melva, Melvin and Daryl Larson, Anna Marie Krohn and Marlene Lundeen sang "In the Garden" and "Rock of Ages " accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Abner Persinger. Bearers were John Newman, Glenn Miller, Claude Cox, Delmer Greenstreet, Vinton and Evans Woodward. Interment was in the Grant cemetery at Ticonic with arrangements in care of the Pearson Funeral Home
