Robert “Bob” Charles Romine, age 84, longtime resident of Palisade, NE passed away Saturday, May 19, 2018 in Onawa, Iowa.

Bob was born in Palisade to parents Charley and Dorothy May (Carter) Romine on August 4, 1933. He was one of four children who grew up in Palisade, graduating from Palisade High School in 1952. Bob then went on to attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

On October 28, 1953, following a year at UNL, Bob enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged October 27, 1955.

While stationed in Fort Niagara, NY Bob met the love of his life, Alma (Sheffer) Romine. The couple wed in South Park, NY on November 12, 1955. Returning to his roots in Palisade, Bob and Alma made their home on the family farm and were blessed with two children, Cindy and Randy. Bob and Alma moved to Onawa, IA in December of 2016.

Bob was a beloved family man who understood the importance of giving back to his community. His commitment to southwest Nebraska was evident in the countless hours he devoted to the public service boards in which he was actively involved. Bob was a past member of the Hitchcock County Fair Board and past President of the Palisade School Board. He served as a Director on the Southwest Public Power Board for 32 years where he was also President for several terms. Bob’s memberships include the Palisade United Methodist Church where he was baptized and attended his entire life, the Elks Club, and the American Legion #318. Bob held offices on several other state and local boards which include the Palisade Co-op as well as the NRECA where he served as State Director.

Bob enjoyed being in the outdoors where he could be found camping or travelling through the beautiful Rocky Mountains. He was also an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan.

Bob is survived by his wife, Alma, of Onawa, IA; daughter, Cindy (Dave) King of Onawa, IA; sons, Randy (Dawn) Romine of Elmwood, NE; Arlie Holmes of Columbus, NE: brother, Gary (Linda) Romine of Canyon Lake, TX; sister, Cheryl Romine of Lincoln, NE; seven grandchildren, Brandon Cudaback , Elise Romine, Hope (Kylor) Gilmore, Dallas Romine, Rachel (Dean) Orvis, Josh King and Hannah King; two great grandchildren, Bo Orvis and Reagan Orvis; and a host of friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Charlene Hemmert; and granddaughter, Naomi King.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 2:00 – 8:00 PM with the family greeting friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, McCook, NE.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018 at the Palisade United Methodist Church with Rev. Elias Mukindia and Rev. Judy Dye officiating. Inurnment with Military Honors will follow in the Palisade Cemetery.
