Norma Jean Erlemeier, age 77, of Soldier, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at her residence of Soldier, Iowa.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 9, 2018 at the Soldier Lutheran Church of Soldier, Iowa. Pastor Shari Schwedhelm will officiate; Committal Services will be held in the Memorial Park Cemetery, of Sioux City, Iowa, on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a prayer service held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the Soldier Lutheran Church of Soldier, Iowa. The Armstrong - Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Norma Jean Erlemeier, the daughter of Warner and Irene (Lewis) Tillman, was born on October 28, 1940, in Dunlap, Iowa. She grew up on a farm outside of Mapleton, Iowa and graduated from Mapleton High School with the class of 1958.

On June 21, 1958, Norma was united into marriage to Fred Erlemeier in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Danbury, Iowa. Norma and Fred were blessed with four children Greg, Kathy, Leo, and Brenda.

As entrepreneurs in the 60’s, Norma and Fred would convert a home into a drive-in they would call the Village Inn. It became a hit in the small town of Danbury and the couple ran the drive-in for several years before selling. Norma and Fred would later part ways.

Norma worked various jobs over the years working for Lanny’s of Mapleton, Straight Inn of Soldier, ran a bean walking crew, and then settled in at Midway Tavern of Soldier. In 1981, Norma purchased Midway Tavern and continue to own and operate it until 1991. After the sale of Midway, Norma became a dealer at Casino Omaha and later at Ameristar of Council Bluffs before retiring in 2008.

Norma enjoyed playing cards (euchre), cooking, entertaining family and friends, watching T.V., bowling on ladies league, and dancing with The Lovelies of Soldier, Iowa. She belonged to the local ladies Legion Auxiliary and was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church.

Left to cherish her memory are her children Greg (Jeanie) Erlemeier of Soldier, Iowa, Kathy (David) Hanson of LeMars, Iowa, Leo (Shari) Erlemeier of Mapleton, Iowa, Brenda (David) Johnson of Cheyenne, Wyoming; ex-husband Fred Erlemeier; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild on the way; sisters Evelyn (Ward) Kowalke of Cresco, Iowa and Pam (Fred) Uhl of Sioux City, Iowa; sister-in-law Carol Tillman of Marysville, Ohio; extended family and friends.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents Warner and Irene Tillman; grandson Hunter Johnson; brothers Carl Tillman and Richard Tillman; nephew Brady Uhl; and special friend Terry Swain.
