Phillip Earl Edward Goslar 1923-2009

Phillip Earl Edward Goslar was born July 8, 1923, the son of Edward D. and Lena Rosburg Goslar. He died Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at the Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa, at the age of eighty six.

Phillip was born on a farm near Ute, Iowa. He was baptized in Christ on August 5, 1923 at St. John Lutheran Church, Charter Oak and later confirmed there on March 21, 1937. He received his education in a rural school near his home. After completing his education he helped on the family farm and worked pan-time for Berne Co-Op. In the early 1960s, he started working full-time for Berne Co-Op and worked there for more than thirty years.

On July 14, 1946 Phillip was united in marriage to Leona Klaus at St John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak Iowa, by Rev Schroeder. It was a double wedding with Phillip's sister, Irma and her husband, Lavern Wessel.

Phillip was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed family gatherings, helping his children and going on Sunday afternoon joyrides. He also enjoyed fishing, especially at Spirit Lake and Lake View and reminiscing about old times and memory of past dates. He was a member of St Paul Lutheran Church since 1982.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Audrey Klockgether, one brother, Edward Goslar Jr., three brothers-in-law, Alfred, Herbert and Linus Sievers; and a special nephew, Larry Sievers.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-three years, Leona of Ute, two sons Gary Goslar and his wife, Sally, Mark Goslar, all of Ute, one daughter, Connie Keating of Charter Oak, six grandchildren, Tina Sachau and her husband, Clint, Shawn Goslar and special friend, Julie Jorstad, Mindy Boyle and her husband, Duane, Missy Keating and special friend T.J Bubke, Cole and Morgan Goslar, six great-grandchildren, Micah Sachau Skvlar Goslar, Carter Madison and Mya Boyle and Bryh Bubke, five sisters, Lola Sievers of Ute, Wilma Sievers of Breda, Jean Goslar of Ute, Irma Wessel and her husband. Lavern of Ricketts, and Shirley Gosch and her husband, Norman of Ute, one brother, Ronald Goslar and his wife, Lou Anna of Ute, one sister-in-law, Lois Goslar of Charter Oak, and one brother-in-law, Henry Klockgether of Mapleton many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, November 13, 2009 at the St Paul Lutheran Church in Ute, Iowa. Rev Ed Brandt officiated the service and grave side rites held at the St Clair Cemetery in Ute. Lynette Thies provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "I Know That My Redeemer Lives," "How Great Thou Art,” “What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "Abide With Me.”

Those serving as honorary pallbearers; Morgan Goslar, Missy Keating, Shawn Goslar, Mindy Boyle,Tina Sachau and Cole Goslar.

Pallbearers were Todd Klockgether Richard Sievers, Steve Wessel, Chad Goslar, Brad Gosch, Tim Goslar and Larry Sievers in Memoriam. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak was in charge of arrangements.
