Mapleton, Iowa – T. Art McCleerey, 85, of Mapleton died Monday in a nursing home at Mapleton.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Walter Funeral Home at Mapleton. The Rev. Louis Aitken will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Loren Hollister Post 496, American Legion.

Mr. McCleerey was born April 13, 1896, at Mapleton. He was a lifelong area resident and he worked for the Iowa State Highway Commission for more than 25 years.

He married Vi Martindale February 21, 1922, at Onawa.

He was a past member of the Mapleton Volunteer Fire Department and a 50-year member of the American Legion. He was an Army veteran of World War I.

Mr. McCleerey and his wife entered the Maple Heights Nursing Home at Mapleton in January of 1981.

Survivors include the widow; one son, Lawrence of Hibbing, Minnesota, two daughters, Mrs. Duane (Eleanor) Clark of Smithland and Mrs. Jack (Jo Ann) Dryden of Council Bluffs; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
