Mrs. John (May J) Duschl, 85, of Signal Mountain, Tennessee, died Sunday at Signal Mountain. She was a former Mapleton resident.

Graveside services were held at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, November 5, 1980 in the Mount Hope Cemetery at Mapleton, Iowa. The Rev. Louis Aitken officiated. The Walter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements at Mapleton.

Mrs. Duschl, the former May Friedman, was born on May 1, 1895 to William and Minnie (Stemmer) Friedman, at Princeville, Illinois. She and Mr. Duschl were married in 1918 at Roswell, New Mexico, and shortly after came to Mapleton. Mr. Duschl died in 1955. She taught school before her marriage and was a librarian at the Maple Valley School from 1942 until 1957. In 1960, she moved to New Jersey to live with her children and later moved to Florida. For the last three years, she had made her home with a daughter in Signal Mountain, Tennessee.

She was a longtime member of St. John’s United Methodist Church at Mapleton, Iowa and the Methodist Ladies Society. She was also a member of PEO and the Women’s Civic Club.

Survivors include one son, John of Succasunna, New Jersey; two daughters, Mrs. Albert (Joyce) Bowman of Signal Mountain and Mrs. Sara Ann Curry of Rosselle, New Jersey; two brothers, William of Peoria, Illinois and Lawrence of Sun City, Arizona; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
