Norma Ellen Johnson, 81, of Whiting, Iowa formerly of Sioux City, died Monday, January 3, 2000 at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Douglas Klein officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 to 11:15 a.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mrs. Johnson was born July 19, 1918 in rural Danbury, Iowa, the daughter of Charles P. and Ada Grace (Edgington) Baker. She was raised in the Danbury area and attended country schools. She graduated from Mapleton (Iowa) High School in 1936. She moved to Sioux City in 1937.

She married Louis E. Johnson on April 20, 1940 in Sioux City. He died July 22, 1961 in Sioux City.

She was employed as a lighting and fixture consultant with Warren Electric Co. for 45 years, retiring in 1984.

She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Rosary Society and American Association of Retired Persons. She was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and the Soup Kitchen. She enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include a sister, Donna Longlee of Castana, Iowa; a brother-in-law and his wife, Robert and Fran Johnson of Clearwater, Kansas and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Nilmah Gilbert and Arleen Hall and a brother, Chase Baker.

Pallbearers will be Leon Ortner, Delmar Nielsen, Chris Baagoe, Bill Baagoe, Steve Longlee and Ray Nacke.
