Service held for James Castle

James O. Castle, Rodney, Iowa, died Thursday, September 20, 1979 at his home near Rodney. He Had reached the age of 85 years, 2 months and 3 days.

He was born July 17, 1894, at Mapleton, Iowa to George and Ida Alexander Castle. On January 27, 1916 he was united in marriage with Dorothy Ultsch at Mapleton, Iowa. She died in November 1968. He had been a carpenter and had lived near Rodney for the last 12 years.

He is survived by 8 sons, George, Gary and Leslie, all of Mapleton, Iowa, Floyd of Independence, Oregon, Harold of Yankton, South Dakota, James and Arthur of Smithland and Russell of Rodney; 3 daughters, Mrs. Ralph Habinck of Mapleton, Iowa, Mrs. Joseph Williams of Tahoe City, California and Mrs. Paul Schumacher of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 29 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Services were held at the United Church of Christ at Rodney, Iowa on Monday, September 24, 1979 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dale Church officiating. Mrs. Maude Persinger, the organist, accompanied the soloist, Darrell Larson, who sang the selections “Nearer My God To Thee” and “The Old Rugged Cross.”

Casket-bearers were Waldo Lundeen, Walt Svendsen, Earl Allen, Marchmont Heisler, Lee Ford and Louis Uhl.

Interment was in the Grant Cemetery at Rodney, Iowa.
