Shirley Carol LaFave, 80, of Mapleton, passed away Sunday, Aug. 6, 2017, in Onawa, Iowa.

Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. Visitation will be 3 p.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Shirley Carol LaFave was born on Oct. 30, 1936, in Sioux City, the daughter of Arthur James and Elizabeth (Harder) Hills. She graduated in 1953 from East High School. Shirley's love of her life and traveling companion was Francis Xiaver Glick.

Shirley loved to spend time with her family and her dogs, Sugar, Oscar and Bella. She was known as adventurous, and enjoyed getting a good bargain at yard sales, and also loved flea markets and camping with family and loves ones. The big deal with Shirley was spending holiday time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by daughters, Barbara Lais of Sioux City, Brenda LaFave of Castana, Iowa, Kim Duet of Sioux City, Jamie LaFave Erie of Virginia, and Susan Johnson of Sioux City; 25 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; her brother, Douglas Hills of Minnesota; her sister, Evelyn Wilshire of Sioux City; other relatives; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her companion, Francis Xiaver Glick; two children, Shirley Themm, and Norman LaFave; and five sisters, Esther Smith, Gladys Mayberry, Joanne Bentley, Pearl Gould, and Bettyjean Ferdig.
