Stanley Norling Anderson was the son of Nels and Sophue Severtisen Anderson who were both born in Bergen, Norway. Stanley was born in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, the eldest of six children.

Stanley Norling graduated from Sergeant Bluff High School in 1928. In high school he excelled in basketball and received state recognition. In 1928 he enrolled at the University of Iowa graduating from the College of Medicine in 1934. For the next year he served as resident physician at St. Joseph Hospital in Sioux City. After completing his internship he became associated with Dr. Joe Kregstein of Sioux City, a former Onawa resident.

November 1935 with the help of Dr. Joe Kregstein and Fred W. Wonder he assumed the medical practice of ailing Onawa physician, Dr. Felis Scheffler. He continued in Dr. Scheffler’s office in the Citizen Bank Building.

In 1941 he moved to his newly constructed office and emergency hospital on Tenth street. Four years later the building was enlarged to accommodate another doctor and Dr. Carl Hopkins, dentist from Whiting.

Dr. Anderson entered the Navy August 9, 1943, Fleet Marine Force in the Pacific Theatre. Discharged as Lt. Commander of U.S.N.R. to inactive duty March 1946 returning to his practice in Onawa. Dr. Anderson was active in many community organizations and served on the staff of St. Joseph Hospital in Sioux City.

Dr. Anderson discontinued his Onawa Medical Practice in 1956, due to health problems. He sold his medical practice and office building to Dr. E.E. Gingles in 1956 but he continued to work for the Veteran’s Administration for several years.

Dr. Anderson passed away on Christmas Day 1977, at Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. Interment in the Onawa Cemetery, Post #662 American Legion of Sergeant Bluff.

Stanley N. Anderson and Betty Casteel of Iowa City were married August 11, 1931. They had one son Stanley Jr. born Mary 24, 1936. Their adopted son Allen Nels is handicapped and lives in Salem, Oregon.

Stanley Jr. received a Degree of Dentistry from the University of Iowa in 1963. He served in the Navy Dental Corps serving two years at Navy Base on Whidby Island. He began his dental practice in 1965, at Coupeville, Washington. Stanley Jr’s wife is the former Kathleen Bently, daughter of George and Helen Bentley of Onawa. They were married August 10, 1958. They have two children: Sonja, born June 15, 1966 and Craig, born May 2, 1968.

Betty, Stanley Jr’s mother lives on Whidby Island near her son. She is a Real Estate Broker.
