Death of a Pioneer at Mclntire.

Mr. R. M. Judd, who has been a resident of Mclntire since its beginning, and most of the time a leading merchant, died at the home of his brother’s in Riceville, where he had gone for medical treatment, on Sunday morning, Nov. 2, 1902. Had he lived until Dec. 17, he would have been sixty years of age.

Mr. Judd was a soldier of the civil war, enlisting in the First Wisconsin Cavalry in the fall of 1861 and was mustered out in April 1865. He saw considerable fighting under Fremont and Sherman, and had a part in the battle of Chickamauga and the second battle of Nashville.

Mr. Judd was married to Miss Sarah M. Thornton at Sandwich, Ill., in 1868, and after a brief residence in Minnesota, and various parts of Iowa. He settled at Mclntire, Iowa, in 1891. Here he was highly esteemed by his many friends and proved successful in business. He was a member of the Congregational church, and died in the triumphs of a christian faith.
