Obituary.

M. A. Hackney was born in Jefferson City, Cole County, Mo., March 4, 1836 and died at his home in Glenwood, Iowa, April 11, 1917, at the age of 81 years, one month and seven days. He has been a great sufferer for several years yet very patient through it all. Mr. Hackney was an honored citizen of Glenwood and vicinity for about 37 years, moving here from Missouri in 1880.

In 1862 he was married to Miss Sophroma Chambers. To this union were born five children, two sons and three daughters.

Those surviving him are his wife, two sons, William Moses and Edmon Stoner of Glenwood and a daughter, Martha Anne Houche of Sydney, two grandchildren, two great grandchildren, also two brothers.

Two daughters, Miss Lou Fielder of Indiana and Mrs. Eliza Caroline Utterhack, having died several years ago.

He enlisted in the army during the Civil war in ’62 serving for three years in the Tenth Missouri Cavalry Company E.

He united with the Baptist church in 1893, of which church he was a faithful member until his death.

He felt keenly being deprived of the privileges of the church owing to his sickness.

Mr. Hackney served his country as a soldier patriot. During his later years the war lived in his memory.

He was a loyal Baptist church member. He loved his church. His vision of the future was bright, his hope most clear. He expressed no fear in crossing the bar. We remember him as a good soldier, as a true citizen, faithful believer in God and his plan of redemption.
