James P. Grove

The remains of Mr. James P. Grove were brought here from Omaha and buried Friday. Deceased was born in Masontown, Penn. March 29, 1844, and died in an Omaha hospital June 10, 1915. He served three and a half years in the Union cavalry service under Gen. Sheridan and returned home before he was 21 years of age. He was taken prisoner twice and at one time lived on a small piece of bread and a smaller piece of meat. After returning from the army he taught school for a while, then entered law school at Ann Arbor, Mich., graduated from that place and entered the practice of law. He took a great interest in politics and gained consider able notoriety as a writer on political affairs, his writing being used by the National Republican committee during a number of campaigns.

His remains were buried beside those of his father in the Glenwood cemetery who died thirty years ago. The pastor of the M. E. Church of Benson Nebr., officiated.
