Henry A. Green

Henry A. Green, a pioneer settler of the north part of Mills County, died early last Thursday morning at his home in Oak township, where the Blue Grass road drops from the bluffs into the valley of the Missouri, and which had been his home for sixty years. Death followed infirmities incident to old age aggravated by several attacks of paralysis, the final stroke having visited him some two months ago.

The funeral services were held Sunday at the German Lutheran church in the Plumer settlement and was conducted by the Rev. Hoff of Treynor.

Mr. Green was a native of Schleswig, Germany, having been born there on February 27, 1833. He came to this country early in life and served one year in the civil war. He came west before the advent of the railroads, and for several years was the driver of a stage running between Nebraska City and Denver. Shortly after the close of the civil war, Mr. Green settled on the farm in Mills county, on which he was living at the time of his death, and which he occupied continuously for forty-eight years.

He is survived by a widow and six children. The children are: Mrs. Wilhelmina Wiseman, Logan, Ia.; Mrs. Sarah Waite near home; Gustave A. Green, Hastings, Minn.; Chris F. Green near home, and Will who is unmarried. One son, Louis H. Green died five years ago.
