A.W. Francis

Abial W. Francis died March 3 at the home of his brother, J. S. Francis, southeast of Silver City.

He was born in New York, Nov. 11, 1826. Moved to Michigan when 7 years old. In 1848 he went to Illinois and on July 5, 1849, was married to Caroline Hawley. They moved to Benton county, Iowa, where in 1862, he enlisted as a sergeant in company A, 28th Iowa. He served his country three years.

In 1880 he moved to Mills county and settled on a farm near Silver City. After the death of his wife about five years ago he made his home with his brother.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon, March 4, from the East Liberty church, and was conducted by Rev. Lew Harris of Malvern. The pallbearers were six old soldiers, as follows: A. J. Hamilton, A. Jackson, Sid Sidener, J. M. Miller, D. C. Jackson and James Finchem.
