DEATH COMES FRIDAY TO W. E. PURCELL AT HIS HOME HERE
ILL ONLY A FEW HOURS LIFE LONG RESIDENT OF COUNTY
Death came to W. E. Purcell at his home in Hastings, Friday noon after an illness of only a few hours taking from the community one of its most highly respected and active citizens. Death came to Mr. Purcell in the home home in which he was born.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Methodist Church in Hastings, conducted by Rev. J. F. Tandin. Music was furnished by Mrs. Fred Lookabill, Mrs. D. D. Fellows, Ira I. Turner, and C. S. Anderson accompanied by Mrs. Alta Hall.
Pall bearers were N. W. Calling, Fred Priest, Ora Hutchings, Vic Cromwell, E. H. Daizell, and Roy Quimby. In charge of flowers were Mrs. Ben Haroff, Mrs. Jess Phelps, and Evelyn Resh.
William Everett Purcell, son of the late Samuel and Sarah Purcell was born in Hastings, October 3, 1876, and passed away January 15, 1937 at the age of 60 years, 3 months, and 12 days. Mr. Purcell was taken sick at 6 o'clock in the morning, and the end came at noon.
Mr. Purcell lived his entire life in Mills County. When he was 21, he became an active member of the Odd Fellow Lodge of which his father was a charter member.
August 31, 1898, he was united in marriage with Miss Bessie Dalrymple also of Hastings. They were married by Mr. Purcell's 80 year old grandfather, then justice of the peace. To this union six children were born, the two sons preceding their father in death, Joe passed away in 1915 and Floyd who died in 1928.
Mr. Purcell leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Bessie, and four daughters, Mrs. Mildred Turner, Shenandoah, Mrs. Evelyn Read, Henderson, Mrs. Marjorie Walton, Omaha, and Mrs. Mable Clites, Hastings. One daughter-in-law, Mrs. Edythe Purcell of Omaha; two brothers, Marion of Detroit, Michigan, and Clifford of Omaha; one sister, Mrs. Flora Allen of Sioux City and 7 grandchildren, and a number of other relatives also survive.
