John W. Weatherhead was born February 21, 1831, in Ivinghoe, Buckinghamshire, England. His father died when he was nine years of age and in 1852 he came to America to try his fortunes in a New World. He settled first in Cleveland, Ohio, where he learned the trade of a builder and contractor.

On April 5, 1859m he was married to Miss Charlotte Goode, in Rock Island, Il. After their marriage the young people settled in Clinton, Iowa, where they permanently resided. Mr. and Mrs. Weatherhead were the parents of eleven children, nine of whom are living, two having died in infancy.

Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday at 2:30, conducted by Rev. C.F. Fisher, pastor of the Congregational church. The banks and many of the stores were closed during the services and the large attendance testified the love and respect our citizens bore Mr. Weatherhead. Music was furnished by a quartet composed of Mrs. F.M. Kline, Will Hough, C.L. Hall and Prof. Soule.

Because of his long residence in Tabor, Mr. Weatherhead has been considered one of our prominent citizens, he having been connected with different local interests all these years. He was a charter member of the local Masonic lodge, and united with the Congregational church, with Mrs. Weatherhead, in 1883. During his live, Mr. Weatherhead was a quiet, home loving man. He was an industrious, hard working man, having a passion to provide well for his family.

During his later years, he was afflicted with a quite serious deafness, which made it impossible for him to enjoy fellowship with his neighbors, or to engage to any great extent in public life. Accustomed to hard work, he was a man who accepted what a kind Providence saw fit to send, and without a murmur patiently bore whatever lot was his. Patient and even tempered, his memory will be pleasant to those who knew and loved him, and because of all these things, his children rise up and call him blessed.
