Albert Tollinger Passes Away Saturday, May 9; Funeral May 11.
Emerson, May 13: Albert Tollinger one of Emerson's well known residents and long time citizens passed away at his home here on Saturday, May 9, after an illness of a week following a long period of ill health.
The funeral was held from the Methodist Church Monday afternoon at 2:30 conducted by Rev. Van Dyke, the pastor. The following obituary was read at the services:
Albert Tollinger died at his home in Emerson, May 9, 1914 at 10 a.m. at the age of 78 years, 3 months, 25 days.
He was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, January 14, 1836. The deceased was twice married. His first wife being Dusan Ann Douglas of York County, Pennsylvania. They were married November 22, 1856 and to them were born eight children, 5 boys and 3 girls. The surviving children are W. F. Tollinger of Emerson, H. M. Tollinger of Onawa, Iowa, John Tollinger of Avoca, Iowa; Mrs. E. J. Carson of Littleton, Colorado, and Mrs. James Merrifield of Denver Colorado. His second marriage which took place July 10th, 1898 was to Miss Minnie Tracey of Red Oak, Iowa. To this union was born one son, Albert, Jr; Both mother and son are with us today.

In an early day, Mr. Tollinger united with the Presbyterian Church in his native state, but when he came to Emerson, Iowa he attended and worshipped at the United Episcopal Church.
He was a pioneer resident of Emerson, Iowa, having moved there with his family from York County, Pennsylvania, in Spring of 1875; where he has since resided until his death. He was a kind and affectionate husband and father, and was highly esteemed by all who knew him.
Those from a distance attending the funeral were Mrs. E. L. Carson of Littleton, Colorado. John Tollinger and son Laverne of Avoca, Iowa, and H. V. Tollinger of Onawa, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford King and Mr. and Mrs. A. S. McKinley of Red Oak.
