H. L. Vandenberg an inmate of the Soldier's Home, at Leavenworth, Kansas, was in town last week soliciting aid to purchase an artificial leg. Mr. Vandenberg was at one time a resident of Mills county, living on the farm now owned by James Keenan. He went through the entire war without receiving a scratch and came home to have his leg mashed off on a railroad.

The lost member was replaced with an artificial limb and this in turn was demolished and the remaining portion of the leg badly bruised by the fall of a horse Mr. V. was riding. His has been rather a sad experience.
