Marshalltown, Ia., March 24. – John W. Shorter, 102 years old, an old resident of Dubuque, died suddenly Sunday morning at the Soldiers’ Home of gastritis. He served in Co. A, 6th Iowa Cavalry, enlisting in Dubuque in October, 1864. He entered the home on July 24th, 1900. His wife is buried here. The only relative known sis Stephen Charles Haley, of McMinnville, Ore.
