SAMUEL JONES DEAD

One of Marshalltown's Old Residents Dies in Toledo

Samuel Jones, for thirty-six years a resident of this city, died at midnight Tuesday at the home of his son, Charles D. Jones, in Toledo. Apoplexy is supposed to have been the cause. He had suffered two previous strokes, the last one coming in September. The body will be brought to this city Thursday morning, when the arrangements for the funeral will be completed. Until last April, Mr. Jones had made his home in this city with his daughter, Mrs. Sarah E. Williams, and grandchildren, spending a portion of the time with sons in Toledo. He was 85 years of age and had been a life-long member of the Methodist church. Samuel Jones was born in Clarion county, Pennsylvania, Dec. 4, 1818, and resided there until after his marriage to Miss Elizabeth McGonegal, June 30, 1843. Mrs. Jones died in this city in 1887. In 1855 they moved to Iowa settling at DeWitt where they remained for ten years. After making their home in Oskaloosa, from 1865 until 1869, they came to Marshalltown. He leaves two sons, P. C. and C. D. Jones of Toledo, and two daughters, Mrs. Mollie A. Van Schaick, of Princeton, Ill., and Mrs. Sarah E. Williams, of this city. Four grandchildren, Mrs. A. E. Pickett, Mrs. R. S. Patterson and Messrs. Jesse and Lester Williams live here.
