PIONEER WOMAN DEAD

Mrs. Elizabeth Richey, Old Settler of Marion Township, Dies

Mrs. Elizabeth Richey, widow of Simon Richey, one of the pioneer women of the county and an old resident of Marion township and Albion, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. G. W. Mitchell, five and one-half miles northeast of the city in Marion township, at 3:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Heart disease, complicated with pleurisy and pneumonia, caused Mrs. Richey's death. She was taken sick two weeks ago, and just three weeks after she had gone to her daughter's home to live. Mrs. Richey lived in Albion forty-two years, after settling in Marion township in 1854 and staying there for a number of years. Mr. Richey died at Albion May 3, 1900, where Mrs. Richey continued to live until recently. Mrs. Richey was born in Pennsylvania, July 1, 1837. Her parents moved to Polk, O., when she was a small child. She was married to Mr. Richey there, and soon after the wedding came west and settled in Marion township, Nov. 22, 1854. Mr. Richey homesteaded a farm just half a mile east of where Mrs. Richey died. Mr. and Mrs. Richey continued to live there until 1870, when they moved to Albion. In addition to Mrs. Mitchell, three other sons and daughters survive. They are Mrs. Orlando Robertson, of Minerva; Mrs. W. N. Pierce, of Galatea, Colo.; Mrs. G. E. Clapsaddle, of Liscomb. Thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Richey was a member of the Albion Methodist church for fifty years. Short services will be held at the Mitchell home at 11 o'clock Wednesday morning. Services will be held at the Albion Methodist church at 1:30 in the afternoon, Rev. Mr. Potter officiating. Burial will be in the Albion cemetery.
