Aletta Johanna Hiemstra was born on January 14, 1918, to Cornelius (Neil) and Jennie (Van Ryswyk) Rus near Runnells, Iowa. She passed away Friday, October 25, 2013, at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House at the age of ninety- five.

Aletta grew up west of Pella and attended the Valley View Country School. On February 16, 1939, she was united in marriage with Andrew Hiemstra at her parent's home. Andrew and Aletta started farming near Otley soon after their marriage. They later moved to a farm near Monroe, then Prairie City, and in 1948 moved to a farm near Pella where they lived until 1988 when they moved to Pella. They were blessed with seven children: Ronald, Richard, Norma, Barbara, Mark, David, and Lila Joy who died in infancy.

Aletta was a faithful member of the Covenant Reformed Church in Pella. She was active with various church groups, volunteered with Hospice, enjoyed knitting, painting, and socializing. Aletta's church and family were very important to her.

Those left to cherish her memory in addition to her six children are: her brother, Peter D. Rus of Pella, sister, Alma Vos of Pella, and sister-in-law, Wilma Rus of Michigan.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Andrew, October 15, 2009; her daughter, Lila Joy; her sons-in-law, Larry Vander Werff and Paul Vos; her great-grandaughter, Jenna Hiemstra; and her siblings: sister, Evalena Witzenberg and brother, Dick J. Rus.
