Merle Jesse White, 85, of Chariton died of cancer Sunday at Lucas County Health Center. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Knoxville Assembly of God, with burial at Eureka Cemetery in Marion County.
The Rev. Mr. White was born in Ottumwa and had recently moved to Chariton. He was a retired minister in the Assembly of God, having served in Missouri, Texas and Iowa since 1943.
Surviving are his wife, Mable; two sons, Vernon of Orange Park, Fla., and Gene of Middleburg, Fla.; a step-son, Bob of Austin, Texas; a daughter, Patricia Brownlee of Knoxville; two stepdaughters, Darlene Swisher of Windsor, Calif., and Edna Wyant, of Milpitas, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call after 10 a.m. Wednesday at Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Iowa Hospice.
