Mrs. Richard Henning Killed in Freak Accident
What might be determined as a freak winter accident, took the life of a Newton woman in front of her home Wednesday night.
Mrs. Richard (Peggy Susanna) Henning, 22, of 117 N. 11th Ave. E. was pronounced dead at the scene by medical examiner, Dr. Fred Carpenter. Mrs. Henning was backing her car from the driveway and opened the door to look out. She apparently fell from the vehicle and became pinned under it, officers said. A passing motorist notified police.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home.
The Rev. A. B. Subrock, pastor of the Newton Baptist Temple, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Pleasantville Cemetery.
Survivors are her husband; mother, Mrs. Thelma Still Miller of Newton; a brother, James Still of Des Moines; her grandmother, Mrs. Ora Galvin of Marshalltown; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Albert C. Henning of Newton; an uncle, Clason Galvin of Pleasantville; and an aunt, Mrs. Jesse Bledsoe of Knights Landing, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her father, Orville Still, in December 1968; and a brother, Michael in April 1973.
Mrs. Henning was a member of the First Christian Church.
She has been employed at the Gibson Discount Store.
The daughter of Orville M. and Thelma Huggins Still, she was born July 19, 1951 at Knoxville, was a 1969 graduate of Newton Community High School and a 1970 graduate of Area XI Community College.
She was married June 26, 1969 in Newton.
