Final Rites For Mrs. Shay
Funeral services for Mrs. Grace Shay, who died May 30 at West Ridge Manor Nursing Home, were held June 1 from the Harvey United Methodist Church with Rev. Clare Biegler officiating. Burial was in Eureka Cemetery under the direction of Williams Funeral Home.
Casket bearers were Michael Johnson, Bruce Harvey, John Harvey, George Isley, Stephen Lohr and Edwin Lohr. Mrs. John Peters, organist accompanied Mrs. Max Harsin, soloist.
Grace Arvene, daughter of John Henry and Aldora Larew, was born Nov. 21, 1889 at Osceola and spent most of her life in the Durham community. Before her marriage she taught school at North Flagler, Iola and Harvey.
She was united in marriage to Thomas Shay on May 13, 1916. She was a member of Harvey United Methodist Church, Women’s Society of Christian Service and Knoxville Senior Citizens.
Her husband, son, Harry and two grandchildren preceded her in death.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Isabel Price of Council Bluffs, Mrs. Mildred Harvey of Pella, Mrs. Beatrice Miller of Harvey, Mrs. Jane Lohr of Lohrville and Mrs. Jean Johnson of Tracy; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and one brother, John Larew of Knoxville.
