Meyers, Clarence Jay – 1923-2011

Clarence Jay Meyers, son of Chester and Mary DeGraff Meyers, was born on August 20, 1923, near Prairie City, Iowa. He passed away Friday, November 11, 2011, at Jefferson Place in Pella, Iowa, at the age of eighty-eight.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 14, 2011, at the Otley Reformed Church. Burial took place at the Oakwood Cemetery.
He received his early education in the Prairie City area and graduated from Monroe high School. On February 4, 1949, Clarence was united in marriage with Myrna Van Haaften at the Otley Reformed Church. To this union five children were born: Debbie, Craig, Vicki, Marty and Curtis.
Clarence and Myrna farmed in the Prairie City, Monroe, Knoxville, and Pella areas. In 1988 they moved to Pella. Most recently Clarence lived at Vriendschap Village and Jefferson Place in Pella. He enjoyed his retirement years and kept busy with gardening and taking care of his flowers. He was well known for his homemade peanut clusters and cookies which he shared with many.
Clarence was a member of the Otley Reformed church. He served in the consistory for many years. He also was a board member of the Otley/Monroe Co-op.
He is survived his five children: Debbie Vander Linden, Craig and Sherry Meyers, Vicki Meyers, Marty and Evonn Meyers, and Curtis and Lori Meyers; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were: his parents; his loving wife, Myrna on September 24, 2005; sister, Carrie Jane Meyers; sister and brother-in-law, Emma Jean and Laverne Van Gorp; and his son-in-law, Leo Vander Linden in 2000.
